Listening vs “Defending”

This quote from a Democrat congressperson from New York caught my eye recently.

“We have to go home and defend this [bill] for the next month, but which one are we defending?” said Rep. Jerrold Nadler (D., N.Y.). (He was referring to H.R. 3200..the Health Care Bill.

I have to admit, my immediate thought was…WHY do you have to go home and DEFEND this?

Do you think they should be defending their bill or listening to constituents?  You have your own opinions.
